Paul Walton writes...
‘The dramatic element must predominate.’ Thus wrote Mendelssohn on the libretto of what was to become his greatest choral work, Elijah. The story is, after all, rich in drama; false gods, famine, flood, earthquake, wind and fire. Mendelssohn paints it vividly in his music with the flair and theatricality also seen in Handel – Elijah has been second only to Messiah in popularity throughout its history and it will be easy to hear why. Bristol Phoenix Choir is relishing its explorations of the drama and looks forward to bringing it to you. The performance also features Bristol Cathedral Consort and a fine quartet of soloists including past and present singers from Bristol Cathedral, and an alumnus of Genesis Sixteen. Join us!
